GS/ Messmen Trade Test Certificate
This course is designed to equip individual with skills, knowledge and attitudes required in rendering catering services onboard ship in accordance with maritime industry standards. It core of training civers competencies in providing mess hall services, performing housekeeping services as well as providing assistance in receiving and storing provision and supplies. The coverage of the course duly conforms to the requirements & standards laid down in Regulation 3.2 (Food and Catering) of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006
COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
After completing the course the candidates should be able to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitude for the respective unit of basic, common and core competencies intended for the Ship’s Catering Program NC I.
COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:
The course covers the following subject/training modules:
Qualification and Attitude in the Profession
Observing Personal Hygiene
Practicing Food Safety, Sanitation and Hygiene
Observing Catering Health and Safety Practices
Protecting Marine Environment/ Waste Segregation Management
Working within multi-cultural and religious environment
Performing mess hall service
Performing housekeeping services
Providing assistance in receiving and storing provision and supplies
Providing assistance in preparing cooking ingredients
Theoretical and practical instruction is given appropriate arrangement and combination. Laboratory demonstration and guided hands-on followed by assigned group activities shall be employed to facilitate training & assessment.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:
Entry to this course is open to those intending to work as messman and for existing messman required to obtain the national qualification.

A Certificate of Completion is given to each participant who satisfactorily fulfills the Course.
